Just a few random images from around the cleaner parts of the city, a long weekend staying at the Inntel Hotels Amsterdam Landmark, peace and quiet a couple of miles from the centre, the hotel was once part of a huge industrial area that is undergoing gentrification urban development. Currently surrounded by a building site, it was though, nice to sit out of the canal side and relax, ponder the meaning of life and death and enjoy a cold one...
Best way to travel, no traffic, no pedestrians and no bikes.
Apparently 78% of Amsterdammers own a bike, thats about 850,000 bikes in the city.
There are a number of these Stolperstein, "stumbling blocks" in Amsterdam, I came across these in the Jewish Quarter.
The project was started in 1992, by Gunter Demnig, approximately 75,000 they have been laid in over 1,200 towns and cities in mainland Europe.
They are placed in the pavement at the last known residence or place of work of the many people that were deported by the Nazi war machine.
When one is bereft of garden space use the pavement.

There are 160 canals in Amsterdam a total length of 60 miles. Mostly constructed in the 17th Century.
There are approximately 3,000 house boats on the canals......
.......and 18 Macadees, I did not have time to visit them all
