Back in the 70’s some of us in the 6th form lived the week waiting for Friday night at the Gred, live rock and acoustic night in the “barn”.( had to blag the shite music being into Northern Soul). Copious amounts of cider and the odd spliff (no going outside for a smoke, these were the days before ‘elf n safety). This was the time of sexual awakening. You could go out with a quid in your pocket, get 10 embassy regal and several pints and still have change. Take an extra 10 Bob in case one of the hippy chicks wanted a pint of snake bite. Happy days.
Then we move on to times when it was a busy roadside pub and eatery, alas no more music nights.
Bit of a squeeze getting into the pub everything was boarded up,well most of it was! Alas the barn was solid, someone had made a half arsed attempt at getting in but nope not possible
Lots of pub type detritus to be seen
Sophisticated seating and flatscreen tellys just didn’t exist.
Couldn’t find a hygiene rating anywhere
Upstairs living quarters were just empty
Well bless him he gave it a go but It all went wrong when a new by-pass was constructed and took away all passing traffic, Hyde’s decided to close the place, it’s been empty ever since
The small town sheriffs I the local council have twice refused planning for demolition and construction of residential homes
