The Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus was built between 1962 and 1970 in a small plot of land at Rua Camilo Castelo Branco, Avenidas Novas district a densely populated urban community in the centre of Lisbon.
The building is that crammed in to its environment that it was just impossible to capture a full frontal snap.
The building is constructed of prefabricated concrete panels, and in parts rendered with "pebble dash".
Pebble dash. Technical term, mansplained: a bare wall is covered in a coating of wet cement into which is fired, at a high pressure, tiny chippings of flint and stone.
A cheap way of preserving the fabric of the building.
BUT! It fucking hurts if you scrape accidentally against it, in fact blood will be drawn.
Almost Soviet looking in the brutalist design and construction, Uncle Joe would be impressed.
Even the bell tower is minimalist in form and design
Ya never know when its gonna be in use, I thought Sunday was the day when one went to church. IT is not SUNDAY.
Thankfully there were not a lot of folk here and they soon cleared off. Free of sin until the next time .
Inside it was all very minimalist, to be honest that made a refreshing change from the garish places of worship I have been into on my travels. It was impressive.

The organ was built in the UK by A.E. Davies & Son, Northampton. The instrument has problems and is only partially operational, Apparently with specific notes and registers not playing.
Air leaks can also be heard.
But there again that might just be the priest letting one off.
