Apparently Bloemenmarkt on Singel canal is a renowned and famous market, selling all things from bulbs to tacky tourist tat wonderful souvenirs of Amsterdam.

It is the only floating flower market in the world existing since 1862.

I believed the hype. They lie.

It may have been floating in 1862, when traders travelled in their barges to sell their produce. Now it is just a row of greenhouse type buildings on CONCRETE.

I thought at first these must be genetically modified as I have never seen such vivid and bright colours on cacti before. Apparently not, I stand corrected

I had heard about this plant when I was in Cambodia, where it is native.

Why I didn't buy any.

A) Notoriously difficult to grow
B) It stinks like rotting meat
C) Only blooms every 15 or so years
D) I didn't want to put it to shame

Right I'm off.
