Sometimes I use a 3D-printer to create inserts for my wooden frames. It's quite some work but it looks very nice on small formats especially.
Here you can see my 3D-printer extruding a relief based on a Decalcomania texture:
Once it's printed I will smooth it with epoxy and prime it. Finally it will be covered by metal leaf and oil patina.
