In August we set out on the hike to Bobotov Kuk, the highest peak in Montenegro’s Durmitor range. The trail climbs across open rocky ridges, past dramatic glacial cirques and small mountain lakes before the final scramble to the summit. Standing up there, with the whole massif unfolding in every direction under the clear summer sky, the scale and wildness of the landscape feel almost overwhelming. The distance to the summit (2523m above sea level) was around 5km from the parking at Sedlo (1907m).
Finally at the summit - and, surprisingly, a stray dog was taking a nap right there.
Another stray dog resting on the way down.
Two more friendly stray dogs.
