Sometime ago, I watched one of Lasisi Elenu's comedy skit.
Let me use his words.
"2020 here I come, new year, new me. There'll never be a new you. You are the same yesterday, today and forever..."
It was funny, but had some elements of truth in it.
I've heard the 'new year, new me' phrase a lot of times. Like, I'll be a new person once the clock strikes 12 a.m, signaling 1st January. I don't understand how that could be so.
Sorry o, you are the same yesterday and today, I don't know about forever, but the clock striking 12am does not change you. Amen?
I have a problem when we expect the year to perform some magic for us because it's a new year. (I'm not talking about the miraculous aspect now).
Let me tell you something, truthfully.
2021 has 12 months, 52 weeks, 365 days, 24 hours a day, just like every other year. In terms of duration and all, it's not different from any other year.
In fact, the only thing that even makes you know that there's a change of year is the celebrations, the jollifications, the retreats, the prayers, the calendar etc. Had these not happened, you wouldn't even notice the year is gone.
The earth keeps rotating and revolving and one day rolls into the next and so does the year. But the days and years are just on their own, doing their job.
I don't expect 2021 to automatically (by reason of it being a new year), make me a better person.
A man that beats his wife would not stop merely because 2021 has arrived.
A drunk would not stop being one because a new year arrived.
Your dream job will not automatically come looking for you 'because' it's a new year.
The money you want will not fall into your hands because you are in 2021.
You will not get married because it's 2021.
Your relationship will not become sweet because it's 2021. Nothing Lai dat (in my sister's voice).
If anything must change or work, it has to be your decision to make it so.
It's the decisions you make and the actions you take in 2021 that'll determine the outcome of it. No, not just the 31st night decisions. The everyday decisions. All the prophecies for 2021 are waiting for you to be intentional.
If you don't make up your mind to quit the addiction and seek help, 2021 won't be different.
If you don't step out and apply for those jobs, it 'MAY' never be yours.
If you don't work hard on that studies, the results may not be good.
If you don't take care of that relationship, it may never blossom.
If you don't make those investments, the money may never come.
If you don't decide to get close to God, you 'may' never find Him.
All of these, the new year not withstanding.
If you are not intentional about those dreams and visions, 2021 does not have the capability to bring it to you on a platter of gold.
A year is just a year until you decide how you want it to be by the decisions and actions to take.
2021 will not make you better. The power for a better year lies in the hands of God and yourself, not the year.
And oh, you don't have to wait until it's a new year to make quality decisions for your life and destiny. Let the decision to rise, be fruitful, be better etc, be a daily decision, not the ones you make only on 31st nights and abandon later on.
So....
What are your decisions for 2021, and what are your action plans?
PS: How about we start with the decision to go back to Jesus, or to give your life to Christ (if you haven't before)?
We can start with talking to God right now to take the wheels of your life from your hands?
Simple right? Yeah, that's it.
I hope this blesses you in some way.
I am Edo-ama and I am successful.
