Weekly Report: Energy Inflation Meets AI Credit Stress (October 19, 2026)
The pressure is changing form. September CPI came in at 3.7%, with gasoline up 9.1% in a single month, and Brent crude briefly touched $110 on October 16. At the same time, investors ran to Treasuries, pulling the 10-year yield down to about 5.09%, while the AI trade cracked: CoreWeave shares fell about 25% for the week as its debt was repriced, and the S&P 500 had its worst week since June.
This week's Weekly Report traces both pressure chains, energy to inflation and AI debt to credit stress, explains why resilient bank lending is the key counter-signal, and lays out what to watch from October 18 to 25.
The distinction GAR keeps drawing: the system has not entered a confirmed broad contraction. Bank lending is still active and global growth is still positive. What changed is that AI financing has joined energy inflation and sovereign debt as a major channel for financial risk.
