I love drawing fantasy figures or characters. This is also considered "Concept Art" and there are experts out there who do this for movies, games, comics - you name it!
This tutorial will help in getting an idea of the process. The combinations are limitless. The only limit is your imagination... I have seen drawings and paintings of eyes that are amaaazing. So here are some basic steps below.
First step draw an eye shape - this is usually kind of the shape of an almond, but again variations can be a lot of fun - half moon, half an egg shape, a whole egg shape, etc.
Next you want to place the iris (the large circle in the eye) - certainly don't want to get too technical. I believe the iris is the large circle with the pupil in it.
So, now we are just placing the iris. This depends on which way the eye is looking. Up if you want the eye to be looking up, right, left, down, center etc.
For our purposes I am just placing it to look forward.
Now the pupil - which is the black part. I also at this point like to add the highlight where the light is shining into the eye. Now it is starting to look like an eye. Exciting!
Notice that I have put a wrinkle line with the graphite just above the eye, and this can be other interesting shapes. This graphite can also be blended later in the drawing.
Now let's add some lashes. Just do it as random as you can - the should look a little uneven. So relax and do small strokes quickly and not too evenly.
Coloring the pupil black and leaving the highlight, again here you can add different shapes for highlights.
Also, going to add some texture in the iris. This is where you can get really creative and even put some reflective thingy in the eyes. Maybe a skyline? I am just putting some lines in to look like a pretty basic eye.
Yes, if you have a blending stick great start playing with the shading, if not you can use a Q-tip or even a piece of tissue. Of course sometimes I just use my finger.
Also started to fill out the lashes, again keeping it uneven. Even added some random lashes on the bottom of the eye - coming out of the edge of the eye.
In the iris I like to add some interesting texture... notice the squiggles!
Just laying down the graphite from the pupil in a rough textured way. Will blend later or leave it rough.
Pretty much looks like an eye now, notice that I have shaded under the lid right across the eye. This stage is important. If you forget to shade it won't look as realistic.
From here you can do a lot more shading and blending, but the purpose of this tutorial is just to show the basic steps.
This is a different eye and again the basics so enjoy the video too!
More blending makes this a "Smoky Eye".
I like this one with the bangs and weird reflections in the eye!
Mostly have a lot of fun drawing your eyes.
