There are often times we get distracted by the noises in our head. These voices attack our entire well being.
When we are unable to accomplish a task, they tend to tag us as “failure”. It births such feeling of condemnation when we sin.
Sometimes, these toxic voices, these negative feelings could come from our external environment; from friends or a present situation. The mind itself is a battle field.
This is the design of the enemy. He is aware that as powerless as he is, the only way he can get people is through their mind.
He adopted this same strategy during the temptation of Christ. It all happened in Jesus’ mind.
“If you are the Son of God, command this stone to become bread”, the Devil said.
But Jesus understood his identity as He quoted God’s Word in response (though the devil has knowledge of this Word too, hence we must be equipped with this armor).
KNOWLEDGE OF WHOM WE ARE IS KEY
We cannot rise above the level of our knowledge. We are limited by the level of information we have.
A Prince who was born without knowing that he is a prince cannot grow to fight for his right since he lacks the knowledge of his identity.
An eaglet was born but it lost its home. It found new home with the chicks and grew with them. Such eaglet still has the potential characteristics of an eagle, but the nature has been corrupted. It will die with the mentality of a chick if it doesn’t come to realize who it is – its identity.
In the same manner, the devil’s greatest weapon is that he comes through our mind and first fight our identity in our head.
He is aware that when you are secured in your identity in Christ, you are like the tree planted along a riverbank which cannot be moved.
UNDERSTANDING OUR IDENTITY
When we know who we are, coupled with faith and understanding, we shall do exploit.
But The Question Is: WHO ARE WE?
But as many that received (by believing in) Him, to them He gave power to become the Sons of God, even to them that believe on His name. John 1:12 (KJV, emphasis mine)
We are who God says we are.
We are the Sons and Daughters of God for those who believe.
We are a holy nation made is the image and likeness of God.
We are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus.
We are peculiar and the apple of God’s eyes.
We are more than conquerors, overcomers of this world, and made victorious through our faith in the Blood of Jesus.
These are who we are, and they are only made possible by the sacrifice of Jesus on the Cross.
When we think less of these, we give the enemy an opportunity to strike. Hence, we must constantly renew our minds with God’s Word.
THE VICTORY THAT HAS ALREADY BEEN GIVEN TO US
When you know the victory that has already been given to you and who you are in Christ, then the demonic influences will be of no effect on you.
This is our victory:-that CHRIST DIED FOR US
So, when God sees us, He sees the blood of His Son for our life is hidden with Christ. He doesn’t see our failures and flaws, neither does He judge us with them.
Rather, He sees us with the image of His Son who paid the price for our ransom and became the propitiation of our sins. Upon Him was the chastisement that made us whole.
But the devil fears that we have come to wholeness by Jesus’ death and wants to take us off balance.
GOD’S WORD AND THE PLACE OF BELIEVING
Our identity is more of a function of God’s grace. It’s not of works that man should boast. It’s by God’s grace that we are who we are.
But by the grace of God, I am what I am: and his grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain; but I labored more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me. (1 Corinthians 15:10)
Our greatest armor for this battle is standing on God’s Word and believing in what it says about us.
Grace makes, faith takes. We must believe in what Grace has made available to be able to enjoy the dividends it provides.
For those who believe, He gave them power to become Sons.
For those who believe, they shall never die.
For those who believe, they become the body of Christ and those who are in this body cannot be condemned.
They are heavenly, for they bear the image of the Father in whom we bear fruits.
For there is therefore no condemnation to them who are in Christ. (Romans 8:1)
When we are aware of our identity, it influences our choices and the decisions we make.
MAINTAIN THE VICTORY THAT JESUS HAS PAID FOR YOU
Having learnt that knowledge precedes understanding (or believing), the next stage is maintaining it.
To maintain the victory that Jesus has paid for us on the cross demands that we must stand in the gospel which we have received.
We must stand in the gospel by which we are saved.
We must stand in the gospel for in it is our identity and purpose revealed.
We must Stand on who we are in Christ.
In conclusion:
My beloved, be steadfast, unmovable, always abiding in the work of the Lord.
Having put these into consideration, we work is power, we work is miracle, we live a life of favor because we know who we are.
