This is a tricky one, but truly what is it that when you have it you want to share it and when you share it, you don't have it ?

After munites of racking my brain I found the answer. It's a SECRET

if you have a secret the urge to share it is almost irresistible but once you share it, it's no longer a secret.

So the answer to your riddle is a secret.
