Many a times, we say these words "I have a problem" without putting much thoughts into what we have said.
One could ask, What is a problem? According to Merrian webster dictionary a problem is:
a : an intricate unsettled question
b : a source of perplexity, distress, or vexation
c : difficulty in understanding or accepting a situation.
Thinking critically about the meaning of the word "problem", One can infer that a problem is a vague, or ambiguous entity that lies between two phases of events. The first is the actual phase or situation we find ourself in while the second is the desired circumstance that we anticipate.
In the actual phase, we are presented with an uncomfortable situation that we desire to put an end to while in the second phase is the anticipated result . It can be visualized as standing at one cliff and looking at the adjacent cliff without having any idea on how to bridge the gap between them.
In between these two phases lies a region of unsettled question, confusion, vexation and difficulties in understanding and accepting a situation. In this region, we lack the knowledge, resources, attitudes and mindset that will take us from where we are to where we desire to be. We are inclined by nature to either take impulsive decision or resign to despair.
However, having an understanding of what a problem is could actually help us to shift our perspective, surmount our problems and obtain the desired result.
