Hello hivers and #AmazingNature lovers, in my last post I talk about very tiny flowers. Today I want to do the exact opposite. I want to post about a group of species with big flowers. A group that I consider very interesting, I mean the Magnolias.
Hola Hivers y amantes de #AmazingNature, en mi publicación anterior estuve hablando sobre flores realmente pequeñas. Hoy quiero hacer exactamente lo opuesto. Quisiera publicar sobre un grupo de especies con flores grandes. Un grupo que considero muy interesante, Me refiro a las Magnolias.

The genus Magnolia was named after the French botanist Pierre Magnol. This is an ancient group of plant that often symbolizes the flowering plants. So much so that the taxonomic division that group all flowering plants takes its name from this genus (Magnoliophyta), there is also a class (Magnoliopsidae), an order (Magnoliales) and a family (Magnoliaceae) that were named in the same way.
El género Magnolia fue nombrado en honor al botánico francés Pierre Magnol. Este es un antiguo grupo de plantas que frecuentemente simboliza a las plantas con flores. Tanto así que la División taxonómica que agrupa a todas las plantas con flores toma su nombre de este género (Magnoliophyta), también hay una clase (Magnoliopsidae), un orden (Magnoliales) y una familia (Magnoliaceae) que fueron nombradas de la misma manera.

The family includes trees and shrubs of simple leaves, commonly bright green above and reddish below (although the colors below can change with the species) and big flowers commonly white or pale colors.

This individual appears to be joung but they can be truly magnificent trees/Este individuo parece ser joven pero pueden llegar a ser verdaderamente magnificos
The traits of the family that are considered ancient are, big flowers with radial symmetry, hypogynous flowers (the ovaries are above the petals), the receptacle (the structure where the pistils and the anther are inserted) is elongated and cone like and the carpels are independent and each one bear one seed.
Los rasgos de la familia que son considerados antiguos son, flores grandes con simetría radial, flores hipóginas (los ovarios se encuentran por encima de los pétalos), el receptáculo (la estructura donde los pistilos y anteras se insertan) es alargado y en forma de cono y los carpelos son independientes y cada uno porta una semilla.
This is the fruit of a magnolia tree, each scale shaped structure is a carpel that bears one seed, when the fruit is ripe the scars in the center of each carpel opens and expose the seeds/ Este es el fruto de una arbol de magnolia, cada estructura con forma de escama es un carpelo que porta una semilla, cuando el fruto madura la cicatríz en el centro de cada carpelo se abre y expone la semilla.
