Pacing through the crowd on Monday morning at 8:15 catching up news, sipping coffee, and looking forward to starting my day as I rushed through a horde of people hurrying to reach their destiny. Mentally making note to call back my family and loving boyfriend when I land. As I reported to duty at bay 11, adjusting my uniform and getting ready to start a busy day of flying. Working as a senior stewardess I had to be top-notch at everything I do. I was greeted by a fellow hostess and crew. I briefed about the schedule, instructions to carry out tasks. I could feel the excitement my face was brimming brightly with a smile and aiming to seize the day.
Boarding was to start in half an hour, as we picked our overnight cases and made our way to the flight. “Good morning” as I greeted the pilot and first officer, asked them about their preference of beverage. Pineapple juice with 2 sugars please. once served I moved to the main aspect.
Preparing the aircraft for customer boarding and keeping an eye on flight orderliness, checking to make sure that adequate supplies of refreshments and emergency equipment are on board. Completing and submitting required safety reports, I gave thumbs up for boarding.
Boarding began I welcomed customers engaging in pleasantries ensuring to create a comfortable, friendly environment throughout the flight. Seats filling faster, ensuring the seat maps filled and instructed hostess to close the door for safety instructions and take their seats as the flight made its way to the runway.
The flight took off and the seat signs were off, we began service. It started with customers yelling Vegan sandwich, black coffee, whiskey, low-fat yogurt, ice cream, cookies, sushi, blah blah blah. After finishing my routine serving and returning to storage and water station. My day continued taking care of flyers and making sure they had everything they need.
Serving continued for hours where people chewed and sipped on airlines food, one of the passengers asked me for hot water as I located the water jug and try to pour some
hot water, the flight it turbulence and I ended up pouring hot liquid all over my arm and spilled few drops on the adjacent flyer. “AAhhhh” I heard myself screaming in pain, also getting yelled by the adjacent passenger for causing him discomfort, my fellow stewardess quickly grabbed the half-filled glass from my hand and added some cold water to get the water to a drinkable temperature, gave it to the lady who had asked.
I apologized to the passenger and handed him a napkin. We moved down the aisle serving beverages, I felt immense pain in my hand, and yet I kept catering to the needs of the people.
With the last serving, collecting empty mugs and trash I moved to take my seat as the flight was soon to end. The pilot announced to fasten seat belts as we approached to land. I felt a dip, the flight was experiencing a large wind and turbulence caused to flutter as I held on to life and looked up all the flyers were anxious and praying.
My blistered hand brought me back to reality I didn’t have my people in the room, I served for them all day, catered to their needs, of course, I’m here to do that but there is no gratitude from passengers, I felt alone, it was as if I was stuck in a room full of empty suits and expensive bags. Not humans!! The plane to a second dive and steadied with flying ceiling and continued to land, I decide to surround myself with love, with people who would want me, care to cling to me, run through fire for me, cherish me, treasure me and everything I wanted for myself.
With landing thud making it more clear for me about life, I chose to make most of it, as I bid goodbyes to the passengers and clutched my case, I was heading towards life.
