I would say that this isn't just Thailand specific but for any of the lower level ESL jobs anywhere in the world. I know people that were making much more than what you are talking about in Korea, but their background was not in education. They burned out after 8 years or so because there just isn't much job satisfaction in being a clown for children, which is kind of what people in ESL jobs are.
