I can vouch for this. While I haven't lived in the USA for nearly 20 years the people I went to high school and college with generally are house poor and have very little in the way of any sort of savings. I think we are going to see a very grim future for my generation especially if the housing market crashes since even the affluent people I know have almost all their savings locked up in real estate.
