I was reading the other day about how Vietnam feared that China would do the same thing here so they developed their own car industry instead of whining about it and then tariffed the crap out of any Chinese car coming into the country. The end result is there are almost zero BYD's in Vietnam. I think they told them that if they build them here in a factory that employs primarily Vietnamese people, that they are welcome to do so but I think they are afraid to try. Since BYD competes directly with the brand that makes Vietnamese EV's they fear that if they were successful, Vietnam would just change the rules and make it difficult for them to sell them even if they did manufacture them here. This is all just word on the street though, the government here doesn't tell us anything important ever.
