Although I do not have your background I am the same way. I get nervous when it gets close to a time that I promised to be somewhere and will actually stop someone mid-sentence that is spinning a yarn with me to tell them I have to go because I am one of those people that if I say I am going to be somewhere at a certain time, you can bet on your Mom's life that I will be there. I like being dependable and it really irks me when certain people I know are "fashionably late" for every single thing. It is as you say "disrespectful" and also very selfish.
There is a guy that lives in my building that we used to share a taxi to go to this weekly event that we both attend, we are supposed to meet at 10:30. I am always there at 10:25, if he is there by 10:45 it is a good day. I had to have a chat with him that I am going to get my own taxi because I just can't be messed about with like this. Be on time, or get your own taxi, is what I said to him.
I am one of those guys that when I have food delivered I am watching the app to see where the car/bike is and I am waiting downstairs for the guy before he arrives. I think this is just a common courtesy but I am finding out that people like you and I are a dying breed... Most people seem to be content with making everyone else wait on them and I don't like that at all.
