Today is world bee day and I could write about the importance of the bee and the hazards there are but no I am gonna write about the disappearing Beekeepers!
You must first know that I work as a volunteer on this organic vegetable garden of 1 hectare in the middle of the Netherlands
For the pollination of some vegetables we depend on bumblebees and bees a lot. And the last 10 years we were lucky that a beekeeper stalled three hives in a protected corner.
A year ago I showed you this bee movie of our garden when we discovered a group of bees that had followed a new queen to start a new hive. This group awaits the search party to arrive back and tell them where a good new spot is. You can already some do the "dance" showing a direction.

This year however the beekeeper moved to another provence and he nor we could find a (trained) successor. So the bees moved with him as no one wanted to care of them. That brings us to the problem of our youth. There is just not a lot of animo for becoming beekeeper. The work is feeding them a little in winter and keep the entrances clear etc.
These lovely Aubergines (Eggplants) will still be growing as bumblebees we have plenty but especially the fruit (trees) now depend on other bee hives nearby so fingers crossed they do find us each year.
So when you are bored sometimes, think of becoming a beekeepers. You cam always park them on a garden nearby and the work is not a lot. Just don't be scared of these little helpers!
