Dear Stackers,

Chinese Panda coins nowadays can be regarded as normal bullion coins. The mintage is in the millions spread over two large mints in Shanghai en Shenzhen.

Long time ago when the panda started they started with proofs only and these are worth a lot but are sometimes counterfeited. Then the low mintage panda's of some years like 2000 are worth 200 or 300 USD each and some 100 USD but the later ones just teh silver value. There are non-proofs from 1989 till present.

But check out these

Do you see the chinese texts? Those you do not see on regular pandas. Watch out for these texts on the back when searching your LCS.

These Pandas are minted in small quantities like 15000 for special occassions or events and expositions.

These are fun to collect and not that expensive. Sometimes local coin shops are not aware they are worth 50 or 40 USD instead of the silver value.

Pictured are:

1998 Int. Coin Exposition Bejing mint 30000 goldplated
2006: Horticulture Exp. Shenyang mint 30000
1996: 9th Asia Philatelist Exhibit mintage 20K

Enjoy
