When you wanna buy gold or silver in Europe you will notice that gold is free of tax where silver is taxed with some 20% on average (VAT/MwSt/BTW etc) depending on the country.
There is one exception for silver and these are silver coins! These have only tax on the premium.
This means that plain bars are fully taxed and therefore not of any intrest for private persons who insted could better buy coins.
So what are coin bars?
A clever manufacturer said I will make a bar but agree with a country a denomination and weapon and ask if we call that bar a coin. And so it was born. A bar with a formal value in a certain country like Guernsey or Cook Islands .
Now the tax is on the premium alone and price is equal or lower to a coin.
