Last year, my church pastor was invited to minister in the US, but he turned down the invitation because the organisers could only make travel arrangements for him and not his wife. He reportedly told them, “I would love to go, but can you arrange for my wife to follow me?” When they explained that they could only cater for one person, he declined the invitation.

Interestingly, last month, a member of our church who is now a pastor in Israel invited my pastor's wife to speak at a women's programme. According to my pastor, his wife had already accepted the invitation and completed the arrangements before even informing him. She is currently in Israel for the programme.

This got me thinking: should married couples make the same sacrifices for each other when similar opportunities arise, or should each person be free to make their own decisions even if their choices are different? And in this particular situation, do you think the pastor's wife should have consulted her husband before accepting the invitation?
