Mine get used at least twice a day, in summer, maybe more. I have 1 of the pleated ones, for the pantry window because they said it would insulate better. At night they are all pulled down tight to keep the cold out in winter. In summer, they are open all night to let the cool air in and pulled against the sun in the day.

I'm not surprised mine are wearing out. It's an easy but expensive repair, as the rollers, custom made, aren't cheap.
