Oukaïmden, or Oukaïmeden (in Berber: Ukayemdan) is the main ski resort of Morocco composed of about twenty tracks of all levels. It is located about 80 km from Marrakech in the High Atlas, the eponymous town which is located in the Province of Al Haouz. The ski season runs for four months, from December to March.
Oukaïmden Station is the highest winter sports resort in Africa, located at 2,620 meters above sea level.
In February 1948, the first snow-thread was brought by the 8th Regiment of Zouaves, cantoned in Rabbat with the foreign legion. With the help of 6 natives, Private Zouave Maurice Pollier installed a generator and the snow-wire on the site of the future station of Oukaïmden.
In 2014, a ranking established by the American channel CNN ranks the Oukaïmden station in the top 100, at the 86th position1, but it is also a ski resort where insecurity reigns
