I've been sowing seeds indoors now on the homestead. Having limited space for an actual garden that I'd like to have, I must remain in the mindset to keep the plants I choose small; as I only have so much space allotted for what I am to grow this year.
I have a few Beef Steak tomato, two coffee beans, more marsh mallow to add to my already fabulous returning plants, a few beets, a couple of yellow summer squash, four new toothache plants and a couple slicing cucumbers so far.
I do have plans to add another dozens plants to the mi this weekend.
Most of my herbs have already been sowed (and growing in my house over the last few weeks) or they are perennials that I will sprinkle a few seeds outdoors when the weather warms up.
I know even though some are perennials, you do need to continuously add new plantings every few years to keep the herbs coming back for larger harvesting amounts.
Some of you may be thinking why are you planting coffee? You don't live in the traditional location for such a plant? But after watching a video (see link below), I thought I'd give this one a go around. I had purchased the coffee seeds last year, but never thought I'd be able to plant them. But after seeing MI Gardener, who lives in the same planting zone as me, I decided I'd give it a try. It will be in a large bucket/pot so I can move indoors after summer has ended.
It will take about 4-6 years before any beans are mature and ready to be harvested, but I have time to wait.
