I'll be the first to admit that I rarely participate in challenges anymore on steemit. I hardly ever compete in contests and I undoubtedly don't post as much as I should; but 2019 has been a year of turmoil, ups-and-downs and life getting in my way... BUT when I saw this challenge, I just had to make a post. I have been on steemit for 29 months (joined in July 2017) and I have seen some things... oh yes I have seen some things. But this post is about how I found my way to steemit and why I'm still here even after seeing all those things.

First off, this challenge is made possible by snook@snook- see the link below with her original post for this challenge if you too want to participate.

How did I get here?

  • I subscribe to many newsletters from frugal, recipe, DIY, prepper and homemaking websites. And one day I received an email from one of the prepper sites (American Preppers Network) inviting me to join this new cryptocurrency sites to earn. I still have that email too. Why? No clue... I am a saver when it comes to silly things like this!

These were some of the things stated in the email...

Things you need to know
This Social Media platform is free to join
Anyone can learn it, even if you are not tech savvy. It's as easy as composing an email or blog
Steemit.com is a social network and online community built on a cryptocurrency called Steem. (Sort of like Bitcoin)
You do not have to know how cryptocurrencies work in order to participate.
The Steemit community is the perfect social network platform for newbies to learn about cryptocurrency.
You DO NOT have to invest any money at all to make money on Steemit.
Everyone who joins starts with about $5 worth of free Steem

So I knew nothing about cryptocurrency, except for Bitcoin because our oldest son had some.
I figured what did I have to lose. I don't have to actually make an investment and I could write to my heart's content!

See I am a writer... have been since 1999 and at the time (July 2017) I stopped working outside the house due to medical issues and was a homemaker; but I was missing writing every day. So I thought this thing called Steemit could be my writing outlet.

So far it has! And I am so glad I read that email and signed up for steemit. I almost deleted the email thinking is was spam.

Why am I still here?

Because I can write... no deadlines... no editor hovering over my shoulder tapping her foot... topics are endless... the friends I have made here are deeply cherished!!

I am the qurator@qurator newsletter writer and have worn so many other hats along this steemit two year plus journey. I love to curate and read posts about gardening, homesteading, DIY projects, life on a farm, cannabis and more. _And goodness knows there is a plethora of these topic based posts all over the platform.

Sure there are drama moments and other negative factors; but hey, show me a social media platform that is drama-free. Can't find one, can you?

So you know the old saying.... you take the good, you take the bad (Or is that a theme song from the Facts Of Life?)

When I first joined steemit, I saw a lifelong chance to be able to continue writing (my passion) and being able to always have something to share, comment on and be a part of.

Will I ever leave the platform? Highly doubtful. I've said it many times before and I'll repeat it here now... I'm here for the long term and long haul.
