Two weeks ago, I visited Rastoke, a well-known tourist village near the town of Slunj, located along the main road to the Plitvice Lakes. They say that long ago, it was a village in the truest sense of the word. However, someone had the bright idea to transform the village's beauty—its cascades, rapids, old wooden houses, and small ponds—into a wonderful spot for a short or long break for travelers heading to or returning from the coast. In Rastoke, the Korana River meets the Slunjčica; the waterfalls, watermills, and lush greenery create a scene straight out of a fairy tale. Every corner of Rastoke holds a special magic—from the sound of rushing water to the old wooden mills that evoke the quieter times I wrote about earlier. Naturally, almost every one of those old wooden houses now hosts a café, and some even serve full meals. All in all, it is a wonderful place; if you are looking for a spot to rest, take a walk, and briefly escape the daily grind, Rastoke is always a great idea.
