Bangabandhu Jamuna Multipurpose Bridge 5th in Bangladesh and South Asia and 92th long bridge of the world. It was inaugurated in June 1998. It is the largest of the three major rivers in Bangladesh and it is built on Yamuna, the world's fifth largest river in terms of water emissions. The bridge was named after the founder of Bangladesh, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Bangabandhu bridge connects the eastern part of Bangladesh and connects the two parts together in the west. The construction of this bridge has greatly benefited the people and it has made significant contribution to inter-regional trade and socio-economic development. In addition to fast passenger and freight transport along roads and railways, this bridge will be used for power and natural gas transmission and have made the opportunity to integrate telecommunications. The bridge stretches from Tangail to Sirajganj on the Asian Highway and InterAssential Railway. After the completion of these two connecting paths, the international road and rail links will be established from Southeast Asia to northwestern Europe.
