When you serve someone with benefit or help people with benefit attached that means you do what you do because of the reward or benefit you will gain at the end of the service or help.
Its funny how people serve God because of the cars he will give to them, the children etc. You see many people going to church because they are in need of a life partner, some people are so concern and encapsulated by material things till the loose focus of God, some Christians are so into wealth that the forget the God who give wealth itself..
What's your focus in life if I may ask?
I can remember when I started teaching in one of the schools in my home town, Basic Five(5) that's Primary five precisely I was busy teaching then suddenly I noticed that this handsome but gentle little boy was totally lost in thought and I was wondering if any part of my cloth got torn or something or if I had a chalk on my face because of the manner at which this boy looked at me. At some point I nearly go intimidated being that it was my first time of handling an examination class, so I summed up courage and asked him what was happening that he was lost in thought, you won't imagine what this boy told me, hmmm he said that i was too beautiful that was why he was lost in thought, I was shocked seeing a boy of ten(10) lost in thought because of my beauty. What am I trying to say many Christians could be In church but they aren't hearing what the man of God is saying, they are totally lost in thought. Many have lost focus of God but yet do frivolous things all around. Many people call themselves Christians but only a few has the right focus. What most of them want is fleet of cars, house, promotion, children, etc.
The Bible admonishes us in Matthew 6:33 that;
33.But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
From now on let us please make Bro Paul's admonition in 2nd Corinthians 4:18 our lifestyle.
It says:-
18.While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.
I ask again what's your focus, why do you serve God, is it because you hear he gives long life, or that he blesses people with cars, houses etc. If you were rip off of all this material things would you still serve God? Would you still go to church? Would you still say you love him? Would you still say he is the best thing to happen to you? Would you?
Search your heart what is really your focus as a Christian. Are you serving God for benefit? Don't be on rush, pause and think, May God help us, Amen.
