Hello Drone Community,
Today, I'm taking you to Unalaska Island in Mutton Cove. We had a rough trip coming up to this bay and were motor sailing to keep the boat steady. But we made it! We had sailor friends from Japan with us, which was nice as we hadn't seen them in a week.
Mutton Cove has lots of abandoned buildings since it used to be a fishing village. We didn't see the military base that was placed here during WW2, but we did notice the amount of diesel and oil left in the water. There was a report of engineers coming to Mutton Cove to assess the damage the military base left behind. They reported thousands of gallons of diesel and oil left in tanks that leaked out and went into the seawater.
We've encountered similar scenarios on other islands. In fact, we met two drillers from Anchorage who came down to check on crude oil spilling from a container until it started leaking.
The closest beach had lots of cattle cages and a dead bull. We noticed all the cows on the hill and lots of bald eagles. On the other side of the bay, there seemed to be a house with a single old man living there.
I hope you enjoyed this little blog. If you want to see similar content, feel free to check out my profile.
