Hello Photography Lovers,
Today I want to talk about Amami Japan.
Amami Island boasts some of the most beautiful landscapes I have ever seen. I flew the drone right after the rain, capturing a scene where the little rain clouds still lingered, adding a unique charm to the scenery. The freshness of the post-rain atmosphere combined with the vibrant natural beauty of the island created a truly mesmerising visual experience.
This was the spot we were docked to, the water was so clear and calm and this is because on the next day, we had much more and luckily we were in a safe harbour because we had big seas and 40kn of wind come into the harbour. We were unharmed in the Harbour.
Japan's harbours seamlessly blend with the surrounding forests, creating a distinctive and picturesque landscape. This unique combination makes it easy to recognise Japan from other countries. The harmonious integration of natural beauty with functional spaces is a testament to Japan's ability to preserve its environment while accommodating modern needs. This balance adds to the charm and character of the Japanese coastline.
Facing the sea, this harbour was quite large and catered to bigger boats. We had the option to venture further into the other harbour but chose this site for its tranquillity. Large fishing boats frequently come and go, and we prefer to avoid the wake they create, making it easier to sleep at night.
The Ariya and Uragami Rivers, flowing through the city, create powerful currents in the harbour during low-pressure periods that bring the strong NE winds, making swimming extremely challenging.
As you enter the harbour, the first sight to greet you is the towering lighthouse perched upon a massive rock. I waited for the wind to calm down before launching the drone to capture the scene. The footage I captured vividly depicts the immense swells crashing over the island, showcasing the raw power of the sea in action.
Amami Island offers stunning vistas of the mountains, presenting one of the most beautiful harbours I've encountered in Japan. The surroundings are exceptionally clean, enhancing the allure of the area. During our visit, we attracted considerable attention from locals who approached us with numerous questions. It appears that the island doesn't receive many sailors as visitors, adding to its sense of novelty and intrigue.
