What Is HIVE?
I once asked that about STEEM.
It is pretty much an ongoing question and a moving target of sorts. My conclusion then for STEEM, and now with HIVE, is that this blockchain, this platform, is what we make it.
If you want to develop, please, do it.
If you want to invest, by all means.
If you want to create, do that. Curate and comment? We could certainly have more of both.
If you want to witness, well, go for it. There is a need if HIVE is to be as decentralized as it can from a server or point of failure standpoint, as well as governance.
All Hands On Deck!
The fact of the matter is, we need all of us, and more, to make HIVE what she is, and what she will become. We all have an important role to play, because without each other—
It doesn't matter how great of a developer you are if no one is using your app for whatever reasons.
There needs to be investors, but they need to understand the vision of HIVE, and all that it means and stands for.
Being an end user is a pretty essential role, too, but without infrastructure, supplied by developers, investors and witnesses, there's no blockchain, there's no front ends and there's less rewards.
Being a witness is vital, but if developers, investors and users leave because they're getting what they need, then eventually, all they're witnessing are empty blocks.
In the end, the developer wants users, investors and witnesses. The investor certainly wants developers attracting users with witnesses helping to protect their investment. Users want more they can partake of, and they want to see their rewards or stake increasing so they can spend more time doing what they like to do. Witnesses need code to run and transactions on blocks to validate.
We've Been There Already
We all know what it was like on STEEM. In one way or another, a small group of individuals with time, expertise, money, influence, etc., would take it upon themselves to make decisions, large and small, for everyone else for whatever reasons—time is of the essence, something isn't working, the integrity of the blockchain is at stake, sybil attacks, it's scaring off investors—there's a never ending array of crises that all needed attention.
All of that and plenty more led us to where we are now. On HIVE.
HIVE isn't just about decentralization as far as servers and trustless transactions go. It's also about governance. Heck, we just walked away (some of us sprinted), from STEEM because of that very thing. In fact, at one point, it was just the mere threat of centralization, before any of it actually started, that led people to get out the cannons and the catapults.
Let's Not Go Down That Road Again
Let's communicate, find value in each other and in our common goal—the betterment of HIVE. There's lots to discuss.
We still need to talk about the Steemit stake, along with the others who didn't get the first airdrop.
We also need to take a look at DPOS issues—most immediately, witness voting. There's been several proposals already bouncing around on posts and comments.
It's Only Been Just Over Two Weeks
Yes it has. So, let's not get ahead of ourselves. One important thing at a time. Communicate. Keep decentralizing governance. Think about what's best for all concerned—developers, investors, users, and witnesses. Involve all who wish to participate.
Then, keep on keeping on.
