Hey, @melbourneswest.
Figures. Before I removed it, I had this in my comment:
If I could afford to live in Australia...
Didn't want to sound facetious since the numbers were similar.
I'm not sure where my house stands as far as range goes. I know there are plenty going for more than that around here, and there are certainly those that are less.
It is probably a state based thing. It certainly is here. We're sandwiched in between Washington and California where housing prices have always been quite a bit higher. And in the case of Southern California at least, very volatile. My wife's brother's house has been valued at $400,00-$750,000 over the roughly 25 years they've lived in it. I haven't asked with this recent surge what it may be valued at.
It's basically a one story 70s ranch style home (adobe, tiled roof) no more than 1,600 sq ft with a garage sitting on a postage stamp of land. Ours is a two-story, 2400 sq ft home with garage and a 600 sq ft office/shed on just over a quarter acre.
Of course, So Cal is nice this time of year... :)
