Hello to all Splinterlands players!!!

Which monster should you choose to put in the tank position? This is one of the first questions that plagues Splinterlands players when they have to choose cards for their team. The monster in the first position is usually the one that takes the most hits and is at risk of dying before the others, but it's also the closest to the opposing team and can deal more blows against enemies.

There are various strategies regarding this: some choose a heavy melee monster with high attack, health, and armor points, while others decide to deploy a card to "sacrifice" for the rest of the team, such as the new monsters with the "Martyr" ability, or monsters with no attack but high health points, or even abilities like "Life Leech" or "Heal" that can help them regenerate some life every round played.

Enter Grum Flameblade!

This airdrop from the Chaos Legion edition has, in many ways, revolutionized the choice of the tank monster, benching many renowned Fire group monsters and becoming the favorite card of many Splinterlands players.

It's a heavyweight card in all its characteristics: a very high cost of 11 mana, 10 health, 5 armor, and 4 melee, with two abilities at level 1: Bloodlust and Void Armor. The Bloodlust ability is usually only found in cards from the Gladiator edition, which are used during Brawls, and it makes this card truly devastating if it manages to deliver the final blow to an opponent.

On the flip side, its major flaw is its very low speed, only 1. Therefore, it becomes an easy target for opponent attacks, and if it leaves the battlefield too soon, it leaves a significant imbalance, having invested 11 mana in it when you could have chosen 2-3 other monsters instead.

Let's see Grum Flameblade in action in one of my battles:

Here's Grum in the first position of my team with the summoner Eternan Brune. It's worth noting that many players also choose to put him in the second position and deploy a card with the Martyr ability like Venari Marksrat, Firecaller, or Fungus Flinger in the tank position.

My opponent, on the other hand, chose a more balanced team with the summoner Tarsa and monsters that are more similar to each other.

During the battle, Grum Flameblade managed to use the Bloodlust ability twice, resulting in astronomical numbers that demolished the opposing team by round 4.

However, not all games end so well. You need to know when to choose Grum and when to keep him on the bench.

Entri in scena Grum Flameblade !!!
