Son's form for some time has dropped and even before this match when I saw the line-up, I questioned why he had to start this game when Bergwijn is on the bench but he justified his inclusion in this game and it goes to show that there is something Conte sees in him. Form is temporary but class is permanent. On the day when Kane fired blank, Son delivered.
Harry Kane had a couple of chances to get his side a goal or two but it wasn't his day even though he faltered in scoring he didn't falter in gameplay. He played the perfect pass for Son to get the second goal while dropping deep to recover the ball and link the attack. Harry Kane is an incredible talent and he brings a lot to this Tottenham side. I can't begin to imagine what would happen to Tottenham if he decides to leave in the summer.
Tottenham dealt with West Ham after Son ran the show. The first goal was credited to Kurt Zouma as his own goal while Son went ahead to score 2 more to win 3-1 against West Ham and Benrahma scored the only goal for West Ham. I knew West Ham would soon find their level despite a largely successful campaign that sees them compete for the Champions League spot. Yes, they gave a strong showing but now it's showing that they would have to settle for a Europa League spot and that's not a bad thing for them either.
I don't know the fate of Manchester United because Arsenal are in fine form and Tottenham leapfrogged them also right now. Yes, Arsenal has tough fixtures ahead but they have grown in confidence I can't say the same thing for Manchester United.
Son just gave Tottenham hope for their chase in this top 4 slot because a draw or a loss would have been detrimental to their chances, especially seeing that Arsenal still have one more game to play. Football is not won on paper which is why I am open to a lot of surprises the season might bring as we have around 8 games to go minus those with outstanding games.
I don't know what plans Conte have for Son but if Harry Kane leaves, they might have to build a new shaped Tottenham team around Son, Kulusevski and Bergwijn at the front line but it's normal that they should also bring in another quality forward that would chip in his own bit too while taking the pressure off the trio.
David Moyes has done well for West Ham but I know it's early but they are out of that race. In as much as I want to believe that United can sneak in, I doubt that would happen and this top 4 slot might just be a race between Arsenal and Tottenham now. Premier League is full of wonders and we have seen last-minute goal win it just as we have seen last-minute 3 points change the table in every context. I don't want to give any predictions but I would say that Arsenal has their destiny in their hands because it's theirs to win or lose but Tottenham should be happy to have won the game yesterday because they played so well and defended resolutely as well to earn that victory.
