Football games have always been about the team that wanted it the most but in the Premier League this season, only those who can fight with their sheer determination and perseverance can end up with a respectable league position this season. This explains why Manchester United has fallen off the wagon because they lacked the fight, the sheer determination and the will to get the results that would define their season positively.
You would have expected Manchester United to at least do better against Arsenal. I am not saying they didn't play better at all, they did but Arsenal wanted it more. Manchester United now suffered 4 consecutive losses for the first time since 1981 which says a lot about the mentality of these players.
Alex Telles was terrible, and so was Varane for the first goal. Dalot was a culprit too because he allowed Tavares to get ahead of him and he did. The second goal was another issue with Telles causing the penalty which gave Arsenal a comfortable lead. With Ronaldo back into the team, he reduced the scoreline but Bruno didn't have the same mentality as he lost from the penalty spot. If you asked me, even though Ronaldo lost a penalty before now, I would still have banked on Ronaldo to score over Bruno Fernandes. That would have been a turning point in the game for Manchester United but Fernandes fluffed it.
That sums up the whole of Manchester United's season because most of the time they were expected to take advantage of other teams dropped points, they would go on and lose further points too. For any team that is serious to finish the season in a respectable league position, that is unacceptable. Xhaka added gloss to the scoreline and the game ended 3-1.
Arsenal showed seriousness since the game started. They faded off at some points in the game but that is acceptable because they have done what is expected of them to put them in that position. United sometimes play as though they are the ones with the lead because there is no urgency and they play too many backward passes.
Arsenal got into the top 4 and no one can say it's a fluke because it isn't. They worked so hard for it and as I have said before now, they are the ones who showed the needed fight. Tottenham's inconsistencies can be traced to a lack of a fight at the right time too because they keep dropping points at the wrong time. Arsenal dropped points too but they keep picking it back up and they did against Chelsea and now against Manchester United.
Spurs lost the fight in the first half against Brentford as they couldn't muster any reasonable shot against Brentford. Brentford showed more attitude on the ball than Spurs and this is why I believe that Arsenal might be the one to take the 4th position over Tottenham. I have said that's it's a race between the two of them and even thought Tottenham would stay there till the end of the season but with the toothless first-half display against Brentford, I don't think this Tottenham side can be trusted because if Harry Kane and Son are not in the game, it's always hard for them to do much. I expected better performances from Spurs, now that they can see what's at stake but they just don't have it in them.
I can see how Brentford stayed in the league and they fought well against Tottenham to play 0-0. They could have won the game after Tony struck the post. Tottenham were toothless and they didn't do enough to win the game and that's why this top 4 is for the one that can fight to the end and not fizzle on the way. The same goes with the top of the table clash. Only the team that can grind out results can have their desire fulfilled.
Arsenal won because they showed character and Tottenham dropped points because they didn't show enough fight. These tiny details can define their season by the end of the season.
Cheers.
