I got tired of arguing about the score, so I built a voice-controlled snooker scorekeeper
Hey everyone! I wanted to share something I finally shipped after way too many evenings at the snooker table arguing about whether it was 43 or 34.
I'm Gilad, and I've been around snooker for decades. The thing that always bugged me was keeping score. Paper gets lost, arguments start, and those manual scoreboard apps still mean you're poking at a screen mid-frame.
So I built SnookScore, a voice-controlled scorekeeper for iPhone. You just talk. "Foul, four points to Mark." "Pot the pink." The app tracks the frame for you, follows proper snooker rules, and shows the live scoreboard on your phone.
A few things I'm genuinely proud of:
It understands real snooker talk, not just rigid commands. That was honestly the hardest part: interpreting what you meant against the current frame state.
Speech recognition runs on-device using Apple's own framework, so it works offline at the club with dodgy wifi.
It handles the rules properly: fouls, frees, respotted blacks, all of it. Turns out encoding decades of snooker knowledge into game logic is a rabbit hole.
It's free to download and free to play, with some advanced features behind an in-app purchase.
I'd love for any snooker players here to give it a try and tell me what breaks. Feedback from real players is worth more than any testing I can do.
