I once caught a bass who was being caught by a pike. When I pulled them out of the water, I had to choose .... do I save the bass and return them both to the water? Or, do I let the pike continue to eat the bass.

I removed the hook from the bass and left it in the jaws of the pike and carefully returned them to the water so that the pike could continue it's supper. I reckoned ... if I hadn't caught the bass, that was it's fate anyways.
