Hello, my dear friends—readers and fellow entrepreneurs alike. I hope you are doing well and having a wonderful week. Today, I want to share something with you that is more than just a post; it is a lovely memory. Those who have followed my recent updates know that my dad and I are working on fixing up our home, making steady progress little by little.
One of the first steps in restoring the house is tidying up the front yard—specifically, clearing away the overgrowth that accumulated due to neglect. My dad is primarily handling this task. We have a very large front garden; the neighborhood is full of green spaces, which means we deal with a lot of wild vegetation.
Years ago, when my siblings, my dad, and I were all still living at home, my younger brother was incredibly curious and inventive; we even called him "Curious George"—since his name is Jorge and his personality reminded us of that cartoon character. Jorge would always come home with something new and different—it didn't matter where or from whom he got it—simply because he wanted to discover what he could do with whatever he had found. He was also a dreamer with a vast imagination that told him he could achieve great things starting with something small—a point worth remembering, as it becomes important later on.
One day, Jorge came home with a tiny plant a neighbor had given him. He told our dad he wanted to plant it so they could have plenty of lemons, and that it would be a plant shared by the two of them. Dad agreed to plant it, but on the condition that Jorge also had to look after it—caring for it rather than just waiting for it to bear fruit—because the process itself was what mattered most.
Jorge agreed, and father and son set to work; they dug a hole and very gently moved the plant to its new home. They both cared for it daily, and Jorge constantly watched over it, telling everyone that he had planted it with his dad and that it would grow huge and bear plenty of fruit. Many of his friends laughed because all they saw was a tiny sapling—and to be honest, the last time I saw it, it really was incredibly small.
Years went by; Jorge left the country, and we moved out of the house. The plant was forgotten, and no one gave it another thought. When my dad and I returned with the intention of clearing out the overgrown plants and weeds, he spotted a massive plant that looked like a huge shrub. As he wondered where such a large plant had come from and how he would manage to cut it down, he saw something moving among the leaves in the breeze. Upon closer inspection, he realized there were lemons, and he remembered that small plant he had put in the ground with his youngest son so many years ago. While we stood there reminiscing, a neighbor approached and asked, "What do you plan to do with it?" My dad replied that he intended to cut it down, but the neighbor said, "Don't do it. That tree bears so much fruit—the lemons are wonderful, big, and beautiful; they’re a huge help for my home remedies." Thinking about it now, I realize it might not be the plant itself, but the positive energy and love of a child who envisioned its potential. That plant has grown, and so has the boy who planted it; I am certain that the nine-year-old boy would be overjoyed to see that his plant actually thrived—proving it wasn't just something he had imagined.
This teaches us a great lesson: yes, we can achieve great things starting from the very smallest beginnings, because it all comes down to the love, positivity, and drive we put into the process. We should never listen to comments that make us feel or believe we aren't capable of something, because ultimately, time is what determines the outcome.
The first image shows the two lemons we saw earlier; perhaps in another life, those are my dad and Jorge, up on their tree, watching how it grew.
