Is Success of Any Value If It Costs Our Sense of Humanity?
The fact that someone is successful does not mean he or she should become heartless. Some people, the minute they become rich, they begin to see everyone around them as less important. They belittle others at every given opportunity, and pride becomes the order of the day. This makes me wonder, what is the point of being successful if, in the process, we lose the very qualities that make us human? To me, success and humanity should go hand in hand because our achievements should not make us forget how to treat others.
You see, when some people become rich, they begin to assume that they are always right. They abuse their workers and cannot help someone without making sure others see them. Some of these people can give a cripple a shoe just to mock them, knowing fully well that the person may not even need shoes. What is the point of being rich if you cannot help someone from your heart? What is the point of being successful if you easily ride on other people to get what you want? I believe that helping people should come from a genuine place, not from a desire to show off or make others feel inferior.
However, I don't think having money or being successful automatically makes someone a bad person or a good person. I just feel that some people already have these kinds of attitudes in them; they are only hiding their true character, waiting for the right time to show themselves. On the other hand, I have also seen successful people who are so down-to-earth and whose humanity is genuine. This goes to show that being successful does not necessarily make someone humble or proud; it is the person's attitude and character that matter. Success may give someone more power or opportunities, but how they choose to use that power says a lot about who they are.
For me, the success of these two kinds of people cannot be valued equally. Imagine peter who is successful and carries everyone along, making people around him feel loved and respected, while paul uses his power to step on others. Although Peter and Paul may have achieved their goals, their impact on others is different. True success is not just about being rich; it is also about the generosity, care, and love we share with others that truly matter. Our achievements become more meaningful when we can use them to make life better for the people around us.
I know it is not easy for someone to become successful and still maintain their humanity. It takes grace and real discipline to achieve that. Sometimes, the desire for more money, power, or recognition can make people forget their values. However, I believe it is possible to work hard, pursue our dreams, and become successful without looking down on others. We can be ambitious and still be kind, and we can be powerful without making other people feel powerless. Success should not be an excuse to treat people badly.
In conclusion, success is not worth it if we lose our humanity. No achievement should make us forget the importance of kindness, compassion, humanity, and respect for others. At the end of the day, what matters is not just how far we have gone or how much we have acquired, but also how we have treated the people we met along the way. After all, what is the value of reaching the top if we have to lose our humanity to get there?
