Do you really understand what life is about? Do you know that everything in life will come to an end one day? Do you also know that your life here on earth will be over someday? Do you ever think about these realities? Do you ever think about what will become of you when your life is over?

People from all walks of life ask thought-provoking questions about life and its meaning. Many scholars and philosophers have sought to find the essence of man's pursuits in life-his pursuits of love, wealth, fame, morality, pleasure, peace, happiness and others. What they've all discovered is that whatever a man possesses or accomplishes ceases; to exist the day he dies. An accomplished athlete was once asked what he wished he knew before starting out as an athlete. His response was, ”I wish someone had told me that when you reach the top, there’s nothing there.” In other words, he meant that stardom is nothing but vanity. This echoes what the wise preacher said in the book of Ecclesiastes: all the works and accomplishments of man on earth are vanities and weariness of the soul or striving after wind (Ecclesiastes 1:14, 17; 2:17).

There's emptiness in man that nothing but God can fill. This is the reason he's never satisfied with whatever he has or has accomplished. He labours rigorously every day to have or accomplish more just to fill that void, but the truth is, no level of accomplishment, attainment, or amounts of possession can fill the void. Man can only have perfect, supreme, lasting happiness and fulfilment on the other side of eternity; that is, his next life when the present one terminates. Yes, the human life goes beyond mortal existence. When life here on earth is over, “man goeth to his long home” (Ecclesiastes 12:5), where he will live forever because he was created an immortal soul. Howbeit, he'll spend eternity in one of two places-Heaven or hell. Heaven is sheer bliss, and only those who repent of their sins and surrender their lives to Jesus will live there. They are the ones who will have true, complete happiness. The rest of humanity will be dammed in hell, a place of torment.

Life on this earth is just a dress rehearsal for the life to come-an endless life in Heaven or hell. The question is, how is your rehearsal going? Are you preparing for eternal bliss or eternal damnation? Friend, no one lives forever here. Those who lived yesterday, including Methuselah, are no longer around today; they've become history. You two will go that way one day, whatever or whoever you are, and that day may come sooner than you expected; for your life is like "vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away” (James 4:14). Are you ready for the great beyond?

When life is over, your family, friends, foes, fears and fortunes will all fade into insignificance. When life is over, all your tears, traphies, talents and treasures will mean nothing. When life is over, only one thing will matter: the life you lived while you were alive-did you live to please God or you live in pleasure? Did you live a righteous life or a riotous one? When life is over, you'll live with God in eternal bliss if you're pure in art, but weep and gnash your teeth forever in hell if you're tainted with sin. The way you live your life now determines where you'll spend your next life-in Heaven or hell.

Be wise! Don't live your life as if you are in control of it or as if you'll never die. Don't seek instant gratification as if there‘s no tomorrow. Don't work laboriously to attain earthly goals as if that is what life is all about. Stop striving for nothing. Jesus says, ”A man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth. For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? (Luke 12:15; , Matthew 16:26). Don't tread the path of those who lived for the moment until they ultimately ran out of moment.

If you're still living in sin , it's time to escape the judgment looming over you and prepare for eternal bliss. Go to God in prayer right away and acknowledge that you‘re a sinner.

        God bless you :)
