Just a few weeks ago, I happen to find a set of camera settings recipe that emulated the film look of a Kodak, Fuji, Evpro, and Ektar for my sony a6400. I've been experimenting with film emulation in my video edit and among all the film emulation I mention, Kodak Portra is the one that I resonate a lot with. The main reason is that when I used this film emulation, the skin tones of my footage looks very natural with a bit of red hues which is to my liking. Since then, I tried to experiment it with still photo and just last Saturday, I went to the beach to try it out. I was searching for a place that will have a bit of a crowd so that at least the photo will not turn out to be boring. It's just that last weekend i haven't found an event that happening around me that is worth to visit. So I just went to the beach and stroll around leisurely watching the activity that is happening. It's been quite a while to see a lot of people gathering here since the lockdown and with just a few more days where the government is opening back again the national border and resuming the economic activities back as usual. I started to get there early around 3.00 pm because I anticipated that there will be a hectic traffic later in the afternoon and I want to avoid it.
Here is the few photo that I have taken during my walk and converted it to monochrome. Since I'm experimenting with film emulation, I tried to emulate the photo taken with film as much as possible by lowering a bit of the sharpness by adding the film noise.
This place is once upon a time a very beautiful well maintain public park but since it's been privatised by the government, it has become a rundown place with a lot of the old playground and the small pond has been left to rot. This place is just waiting for the developer to get the words to start construction and that will be the end of the beloved public beach in Kota Kinabalu. A lot of the netizen disagreement with the privatisation of this public beach because this is the only public beach that is accessible to the the netizen. The sunset view from this beach also one of the most beautiful view in the world. I just hope that the public can continued to visit this place in the future. This photo will be a reminder of what it will look like now later for the future generation.
