I love retro things. My PC is full of softwares to fulfill it. For movies/music I have Kodi (formerly known as XBMC) a powerful media server with plenty add-ons. For games, I have retroarch that could play many games from NES to PS, even Arcade games (yeah, I still play Street Fighter II). For PS2, I have PCSX2. But how about PS3? Is there any good emulator for it?
PS3 is not really the winner product from Sony. Compared to it’s older brother PS2, I don’t remember having a great times for playing it. Maybe because I’m not an avid gamer. PS2 is much more massive. But PS3 games surely have better graphic.
We already hear the news that PS3 is no longer produced. That’s when my love for retro things kicked in. Just FOMO, really. I feel the need to have a good emulator for PS3 to play some games that I will rarely play.
Simple google search does help. A little bit.
There are some emulators for PS3. But their websites doesn’t look pro. Uncompelling. Could be loaded with virus or many malwares. I keep searching. Then I found this one: RPCS3.
The RPCS3 website is so good. Clean, neat, and straightforward. I’m that kind of person that judge a book by it’s cover. Especially when it comes to web design (oh, steemit.com web design is not so good btw). Then what makes it better is that they have great community (that’s why I love steemit, community!). Their forum is active. The game compabilty list is updated.
So I gave it a go. Downloaded it and installed it. The installation process was smooth. Once installed, we need to update the firmware from the official Playstation’s website. Just downloaded those update, and put it on the RPCS3.
I try some games (checking their compability list first), and the games run smoothly! To add games, you just need to drop the games folder to the RPCS3 windows. This emulator will automatically list it to a nice gallery.
P.S.
If you want to try this emulator, make sure that you have your own games, backup from your existing PS3 blueray disc, etc. Although there are many website offering the downloable games, use it at your own risk.
