I recently read a short story about an old man that lived high in the hills, and he was out in the garden taking out weeds and cutting grass. When he got tired, he decided to lie down on the grass for a bit. Just like when he was a young boy. He fell asleep with the sun shining on his face and the smell of freshly cut grass in his nose. It was not long before his neighbor came running for his assistance. He thought that the man had a heart-attack and came running to his aid.
He was surprised to see the man alive and well, and he seemed embarrassed, but after they sorted it out, the neighbor got down on his knees and lay down on the grass next to his friend.
They lay there on the grass chatting, watching the clouds, and noticing different shapes and figures and they ended up telling each other stories about their childhood.
They lay there for nearly an hour, just forgetting about the world and remembering things that were important to them once upon a time. When they eventually got up, the neighbor turned to his friend and said.
'Thank you for taking a nap on your grass today. It was wonderful, and I cannot remember the last time I really looked up at the sky. You made me feel like a child today. Thank you for making me feel young again."
We are all so busy in our lives these days, that we forget to stop and take in what is around us.
When last did you hold a flower in your hand, and just looked at the wonderful design? Even the leaves on the trees are amazing, but we don't see it anymore. We are so busy that we forget to live, and to look around us and see the beauty in nature.
It is time that we become children again, and see the world through a child's eyes. Make a point of it, and take a few minutes every day to see what is going on around you. You might be surprised at what you see. Forget about the worries and the horrifying things that happen all around us, and just become a child again. Only if it is for a few minutes today.
Once you see the beauty, you will understand that these little things are so much more important than the big things in life.
