For the last seven years of my life, I have lived in a small town where we don’t know many people. It has been quite an adventure living by the coast and to have the beautiful ocean at our doorstep. We love it here, and the nature part is beautiful, but the people not so much.
The one thing I have noticed is that people tend to keep to themselves here, and they don’t really make friends. Not that I specifically need new friends, but it would be nice to have someone to visit now and then.
We have lots of acquaintances which I often chat to, but I don’t know much about their personal lives. It’s like everyone just keep to themselves here and doesn’t want to get into anyone else’s business. This is in fact the perfect place for me to live because I don’t trust people easily.
I am a very cautious person and don’t invite people into my personal space. Call me stuck-up or whatever you want, and it might make me sound anti-social, but I don't really mind being alone because I actually like spending time with myself.
Perhaps I have just arrived at a stage in my life where I am content with my own company and I don’t really need complications.
I have met a few people here that I see as acquaintances. I sit and chat to them when we go out for a drink because they are just always there, but that is the full
extent to where I am willing to go.
The friends I chose to keep are REAL friends. They don’t live close to me, but I am
in constant contact with them, and we often communicate via skype or telephonically.
Those are the ones that I can contact when I am in real need, because those are the people I trust with my life. Just as they would do anything for me, I would do anything for them. Sadly, I can count these people on one hand.
I have quite a few online friends who I also accept as REAL friends. They are easy to chat to and don’t interfere with your personal space. It’s also really easy to
get rid of them because if they do disappoint you then you can just unfriend
them. Easy peasy.
I don’t have the time or energy to waste on people who won’t give you the time of day. People are way too selfish to think about others.
One thing that tickles me pink is why people become so selfish? What happened to being compassionate towards others, and to help others where you can?
These days everyone just cares for themselves and they don’t even think about anyone other than themselves.
The most dangerous type of friends are those that only contact you when they need you. Months go by without a single word, and then suddenly when they
need something THEN they contact you and have long stories of how they miss you and need you. Don't bring flowers to my grave when I die.
To be honest and truthful means that you are trustworthy and these type of people are nothing but good weathered friends. I know quite a few people who are really trustworthy and honest, but for the same price I know just as many people who aren’t.
To build a proper friendship takes years to build, but only seconds to break and is almost impossible to repair.
A successful relationship can only be built on trust. Trust creates an environment where you feel free to be compassionate and committed.
Trust is the most effective communication in relationships, and without trust,
relationships fail.
If you want someone to trust you, YOU YOURSELF NEED TO BE TRUSTWORTHY!
So why are people dishonest?
How do we deal with dishonest people?
There is no other way but to confront them. You tell them straight in their face!
Perhaps they will feel guilty, and that might bring them back to their senses
or perhaps it might just make them realize what they have done.
Let’s face it. We all make mistakes, but if something bugs you it needs to come out into the open. If it doesn’t make them feel any different, I can promise you that YOU will feel much better.
No need to hold grudges just move on. If they were supposed to be part of your life, they will come back.
To keep grudges is painful and stressful and it’s better to just let go.
Lastly and the most important is to forgive others for what they might have done to you. Forgive and forget. This still doesn't mean that things can go back to normal as it was before. Move on.
To forgive someone brings a peace that is indescribable. Forgiveness will help you move on without any guilt.
Choose your friends wisely.
