A while ago I read a story that I would really like to share with you. It made me think about life in general and how we always compare ourselves to others. No one is ever truly satisfied in life if they are not completely happy and content. This is a very difficult stage of life to reach but once you enter that stage in your life, you realize that life is not about how much you can accumulate but the love you can share with others.
One day a group of students went to visit an elderly teacher. They respected him and he was a loved man. His wife had recently passed away and they wanted to show their respect. Their teacher was glad to have the company. He offered them coffee and they accepted. He returned with a coffee maker and his own selection of the most eclectic cups: porcelain, plastic, glass, simple and cheap, decorated, another elegant ...
He calmly told them to choose a cup and served fresh coffee. Everybody tried to grab the best cup for themselves first and then settled on the second-best cup. Everyone looked a little upset about the different cups but they continued to drink their coffee.
The teacher smiled and continued to sip on his coffee from his plastic cup. He was a teacher by nature, and the students realized that he was trying to teach them something.
"Do you realize that all the cups I gave you are different? Some are beautiful while some are simple and cheap. Did you see how the best cups went first?
This is natural as we always want the best for ourselves. This is also the reason why we have so much stress and anxiety in your lives. I can assure you that the cup did not add any quality to your coffee. Whether you drank the coffee from an exquisite cup or a broken cup, the coffee tasted the same."
Life works exactly in the same way. Your job or the amount of money you have in the bank doesn't define you as a person. Concentrate on the coffee and not on the cup. If you only concentrate on the cup, you will stop enjoying the coffee."
The happiest people are not the ones who have the best, but the ones who do the best with what they have.
