I wrote Nefala in 2004 for Snow Cycle, the album recorded in Toronto with my brother Stefano. For Lemon I wanted a sung version, closer to jazz drum and bass.
I met Aké, an artist based in Paris, through a mutual friend, and we have only ever met online. He sent me a draft vocal sung on his phone, via WhatsApp. I first intended to use that recording. We then decided to record the vocal again in a Paris studio, and that is the voice on the album.
The collaboration has continued: I have recorded drums on several of his tracks, and he sings on "On My Side", which will appear on Loud and Clear.
