There is a certain quality and quantity of sadness in time,
the passing and fading of memories.
A past no longer able to grasp or revisit.
The moments that made us that are no longer there
other than in our mind.
Moments and memories we are unable to return to,
touch, or reach back to.
The child who has grown up,
unknowingly playing and laughing
for their last time on the playground.
A lover’s kiss that once turned knots of passion
now aged to routine.
The house that held a family’s happiness
occupies another,
with rearranged furniture
and different pictures on the walls.
Past spaces,
places,
and memories
impossible to experience again.
In that there is a sadness that brings a smile with a tear
as life fades into the forgotten.
To know everyone and everything will pass along into the great wake of time.
Memory is a melancholy bliss.
Without it,
the mind wouldn’t be burdened to remember how sad happiness is.
