This art series created in 2011, by Dim Media, as an homage to the graffiti movement popularized by artists such as: Banksy, Shepard Fairey, and Space Invader to name a few. The challenge Dim Media faced was discovering a way to transform 'street art,' a commonly thought low end art form, into fine art, and into gallery settings. This series built out of actual bricks from a demolished century old building were constructed as portable walls to bridge street art into the gallery and challenge the viewer's response to what is fine art.
It does not impose to be street art, but rather attempts to critique the viewer’s perspective on what to consider as art, modern art, or higher class art. Graffiti Art, or Casual Street tagging is often discarded as an actual art movement.
In the process of Dim Media creating the “Corrosion Maintained” series, the Artists maintained a unique method of ‘up-cycling’ materials. ‘Up-cycling’ utilizes methods of taking discarded materials and making them aesthetically useful while inherently recycling their value.
Artists reworked and painted overlapping layers of imagery to mimic the lapsing of time and process street art transitions through. Street artists have limited amount of time to create their works, often doing so just before dawn. The pieces themselves often have short lifespans before being painted over by other artists, or erased all together.
