To make this little painting was really pleasant. It carries a lot of white and grey shades which give it this lightful skin.
This little swimmer (baigneuse) is shaped like an african girl and is blessed with the water nymphs grace, as if she were a creature stuck between two worlds.
The technic
Knife painting is a spontaneus technic which favors the gesture over the rest. For small paintings like this one, it allows to shape a subject rapidly while keeping the movement as raw as possible. I’m working on my painting “alla fresco”, meaning preventing it to dry. The knife slips well with oil painting and keeps well the hand of the artist as long as the work is done within three days, warm free.
Knife painting alla fresca is one of my favorite technics which I teach during practical trainings I organize several times a year.
